Ever-fearful of outsiders, Kiki spent her whole life engaging in ways to escape captivity, should the situation ever arise. It never did- at least not in the way she feared.
But paranoia, and even her deft ability to swipe a coin, weren't enough to prevent her from living in squalor, and that simply would not do. She answered a call for adventurers in the hopes of finding enough pay to live out her life happily.
OOC: My general TTRPG history is a lot of goody-two-shoes and de facto party leader characters. Kiki was a stark contrast to these; she pretended she could barely talk or understand others. She let the others make decisions and would usually follow along, or protest in inconspicuous ways. (She pretended to disable a pit trap so that the companion she didn't like would trigger it instead, for example. And then peeked over the edge, and laughed... or pooped on him. I forget which.)
I don't care for in-party stealing, but came up with an idea to steal Backpack (a sentient bag of holding that could also "puke" out basic items) to sell to a merchant that was obsessed with it, because the payout was good. I did propose it to the group out-of-character first, and we thought it'd be interesting. It definitely was an interesting arc for a few sessions.
The campaign petered off due to constant changes, and I didn't know exactly where I was going to go with her (I liked the idea of Arcane Trickster, but it didn't really have any specific use). But I do miss the fun playing and interacting with others with her.
